Welcome to Bull I' Th' Thorn Campsite - Your Perfect Family Getaway in the Heart of the Peak District!

Nestled in the breathtaking beauty of the Peak District, the Bull I' Th' Thorn campsite is your ideal destination for a memorable family-friendly camping experience. Situated amidst stunning landscapes and surrounded by nature's wonders, our campsite offers a range of amenities and activities that will delight both young and old alike. 

Our campsite is a great base to explore the many attractions the Peak District has to offer, the beautiful spa town of Buxton is only a 10 minute drive away while the historic market towns of Bakewell and Ashbourne are also within easy reach. The site is located close to the Tissington and High Peak Trails, perfect for cyclists and walkers of all abilities.

Camping Pitches

Discover our picturesque campsite, offering 32 spacious grass pitches, including 10 with electrical hook-up, perfectly designed to accommodate your family's needs. With a generous size of 9m x 12m per pitch, you'll have ample space to set up camp and conveniently park your vehicle.
Our site facilities include:
  • Shower Rooms with Toilets: Clean and well-maintained shower rooms equipped with toilets ensure that you can enjoy your camping experience to the fullest.
  • Washing Up Facilities: We provide dedicated washing-up facilities, making it easy for you to clean your dishes and utensils throughout your stay.
  • 3 x Drinking Water Stations: To keep you hydrated throughout your stay, we have 3 conveniently located drinking water stations dotted across the campsite. Stay refreshed and quench your thirst whenever needed.

Please Note...

Please note during our low season (November-March)  there will only be limited pitches and facilities available. Facilities will be located at the front of the pub and consist of 2 toilet and shower cubicles, drinking water tap and small sink for plate washing.

Also as we only have grass pitches, when we have bad weather we may asked you to stay on our gravel track or hardstanding next to our barn to avoid issues getting on/off the pitches.

Bell Tents

Teepee glamping tents and picnic bench

No need to spend hours pitching up your tent - we have done the hard work for you. Enjoy our more relaxing camping option, with lighter luggage, less faff and no panicking when you forget the tent pegs!

Our empty bell tents have space for up to 4 people (and up to 2 furry friends), and with exclusive use of a fire pit and picnic bench, you can make the most of the long summer evenings in style. 

Our bell tents are only available during our main season, April-September.

Our Pub and Pizzeria

At Bull I' Th' Thorn campsite, we not only provide excellent camping facilities but also offer a delightful pub and pizzeria for your dining pleasure. Here's what you can enjoy during your stay:

Our traditional pub: A roaring fire awaits you during the winter months, it's a great spot to unwind with a refreshing drink. Join us for a perfectly poured pint of local ale or a glass of your favourite wine, our friendly staff will make you feel right at home. Our fabulous beer garden means you can soak up the Peak District sunshine and enjoy the beautiful landscape in the summer months. 

Pizzeria & Sports Bar: Craving some delicious hand stretched pizza? Look no further than our pizzeria. Indulge in authentic Napoleon pizzas crafted with the finest ingredients and cooked to perfection. From classic Margherita to gourmet combinations, there's a pizza for everyone and if pizza isn't your thing there is also a menu of burgers, hot-dogs and sharing plates to choose from. 
Our pizzeria and sports bar is a contemporary open-plan room, perfect to relax in and with TVs showing live Sky Sports, you can enjoy an evenings sport before heading back to your pitch.

Important Campsite Information

  • ​We are a family friendly campsite, unfortunately we do not accept group bookings of more than four pitches.
  • In the consideration of every guest's enjoyment we have a strict no noise policy between the hours of 10pm and 9am.  
  • Campervans no larger than 5.3 metres length and 2 metres wide (roughly a VW size) are only accepted on the site.
  • We do not accept caravans or motor homes.
  • We have no hard standing.
  • Responsible pet owners are welcome to bring dogs to the site. Dogs should be kept on a lead at all times and should not be left unattended at any time. 
  • Dog owners must clean up all dog mess straight away and deposit it in the appropriate bins. 
  • Please help to keep the site tidy, use the bins provided and recycle where possible. 
  • All BBQs and fire pits must be raised from the ground so not to cause any damage to the grass.
  • Fireworks and Chinese lanterns are prohibited on the site. 
  • The toilets and showers are free of charge to use and are cleaned daily with regular checks.
  • Please keep the washing up and drinking water station areas tidy and be considerate of other campsite guests. 
  • All users of the site are responsible for the safekeeping of any personal possessions and the Company will take no liability for the loss and/or damage  of them.
  • No access is guaranteed to your pitch before 2pm on the day of your arrival and guests are asked to vacate pitches by 11am on the day of departure. 
  • If booked more than 28 days in advance then a deposit is taken on booking and the remaining balance due 28 days prior to arrival. For any bookings made less than 28 days in advance, full payment is due upon booking.
  • All bookings are non-refundable or transferable. 
  • Any cancellations made 28 days prior to arrival will not have their deposit refunded but the balance due payment will be cancelled. Any bookings that cancel within 28 days of the arrival date will receive no refund for the balance paid.
  • Decisions are made at the discretion of Management.

Walk or Cycle the High Peak and Tissington Trails: Just a short walk across the fields from the campsite is the High Peak Trail, this former railway line, runs for 17 miles from Dowlow, near Buxton to the High Peak Junction at Cromford and is perfect for walkers and cyclists of all abilities as it relatively flat and traffic free. If you head towards Parsley Hay (here the trail splits and you can also join the Tissington Trail, which goes all the way to Ashbourne) you will discover Parsley Hay Cycle Hire. Here you can hire a range of bikes including adult bikes, children's bikes and even tandems! 

Sample some Italian inspired gelato: Just a 2 minute drive from the campsite, Tagg Lane Dairy offers a unique dairy experience centered around their signature Jersey milk and inspired gelato. This family-run farm is home to a cherished herd of Jersey cows, known for their rich and creamy milk.  Made using the farm's fresh Jersey milk, the gelato at Tagg Lane Dairy boasts a velvety texture and indulgent flavours that will delight your taste buds. From classic favourites like chocolate and vanilla to unique creations like salted caramel or raspberry ripple, each scoop of their inspired gelato is a true delight.

Visit Poole's Cavern and Buxton Country Park: Venture into the underground wonderland of Poole's Cavern, an impressive limestone cave system just outside Buxton. Take a guided tour through the cavern's vast chambers, adorned with striking stalactites and stalagmites. Afterward, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the adjacent Buxton Country Park, with its woodlands and serene walking trails.

Visit Chatsworth House: Just a short drive from the campsite, Chatsworth House is a magnificent stately home with stunning gardens. Explore the opulent interiors, marvel at the extensive art collection, and take a leisurely stroll through the beautifully landscaped grounds.

Discover the Buxton Opera House: Buxton is renowned for its beautiful opera house, which hosts a variety of performances throughout the year. Check the schedule to see if there are any shows or concerts that interest you and treat yourself to an evening of entertainment in this grand and historic venue.

Our Sister Pub & Campsite

Just a field away lies The Royal Oak, a 10 minute walk or 15 minute drive away, our sister venue, a popular country pub with great food, array of drinks and traditional cosy interior. Their reputation speaks for itself and we would definitely recommend booking ahead especially in school holiday times.
